Despite the sudden changes in lifestyles brought by the pandemic during the past year, innovative business opportunities have been created. Taiwantrade, organized  by the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) and Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), has established an online VR expo for five core industries including Auto Parts, Medical, IoT, Disaster Safety, and Circular Economy. It integrates forums, webinars, etc to create an one-stop VR website for buyers purchasing from Taiwan — Taiwantrade MEGA EXPO (https://megaexpo.taiwantrade.com) in the hope of comprehensively streaming all sourcing opportunities through the best online browsing experience.  Taiwantrade’s first VR one-on-one meeting held last year was widely praised by overseas buyers and has evolved in MEGA EXPO. Suppliers can utilize and adjust the “Virtual Showroom” to select and demonstrate their flagship products at any time.while they can be transformed into VR one-on-one meetings during sourcing events.Digital technology is used to greatly enhance the mobility and flexibility of VR based projects.

James C. F. Huang, Chairman of TAITRA, said that venturing into the era of Resilient Supply Chain 2.0, what people need is an ecosystem that is both intelligent and dynamic, and the key industries include semiconductors, communications/5G, medical and biotechnology, and electric vehicles, in all of which Taiwan plays a vital role. According to the B2B e-commerce guide published by the leading global express delivery DHL, it is estimated that by 2025, 80% of B2B sales interactions will happen online; by 2027, the global transactions of digital B2B e-commerce are projected to reach 20.9 trillion US dollars.

Taiwantrade hopes that MEGA EXPO can make online sourcing and product showcasing  smoother through VR simulations; the five major features are explained as follows: 1. Collecting data: Data dashboards are provided as a basis for decision-making regarding focus marketing and smart product recommendations in the future. 4. Emphsizing connections: The main entrance of MEGA EXPO-Taiwantrade Hub, is established to guide buyers to various industry pavilions and integrate online activities such as VR webinars and forums to increase customer stickiness. 5. Diversifying angles: 2D, 3D, 360° panoramic images, or 720° panoramic factory images are used to demonstrate product details and actual scenes of factories, showing product features without limitations of time and space.
